178 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will consider the introduction of a subsidy for land purchase to enable smaller farmers to compete for the purchase of land with the forestry companies. [15068/95]

It is not proposed to introduce a scheme to subsidise land purchase for farmers. However, farmers interested in forestry get the benefit of premium payments which can be over three times more favourable than those for non-farmers.
