Vol. 457 No. 4

Written Answers. - Legal Aid Applications.

Kathleen Lynch

Ceist:

113 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the number of clients of the Legal Aid Board who availed of legal aid services in order to obtain a judicial separation or barring order in the most recent year for which figures are available; and the percentage of those clients who were women. [15650/95]

Of 977 applications to the Legal Aid Board in 1994 from persons seeking legal aid to obtain a judicial separation, 731, or 75 per cent, were from women. The number of applications to the board in 1994 from persons seeking a barring order was 764. A gender breakdown of that figure is not readily available. However, the information from the board is that the majority of applicants were women.
