Vol. 457 No. 4

Written Answers. - American Income Tax.

John Ellis

Ceist:

77 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Finance the arrangements, if any, that have been made regarding a bilateral agreement with the United States of America concerning income tax payable by recipients of American pensions here who are not American citizens; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15432/95]

The Ireland-US Double Taxation Convention is currently under renegotiation. The talks are at an early stage. The negotiators are aware of the current position concerning the withholding tax imposed by the US on social security pension payments to Irish residents who are not US citizens. Every effort will be made during the negotiations to achieve the best possible result for Irish residents concerning their US tax position.
