Limerick East): Since 15 December 1995 announcements have been made as part of the on-going programme of development in the health services; additional funding for St. Gabriel's school for physically handicapped children—£40,000 in a full year — and for the development of a replacement clinic adjoining St. Paul's national school — a £244,000 once off payment; £85,000 for a new training centre at Dooradoyle for vocational training for people with disabilities; the approval of a proposal from the Mid-Western Health Board to transfer 36 persons with mental handicap from St. Joseph's Hospital, Limerick to more appropriate placements in the region's mental handicap services; £150,000 towards the opening of a high support community residence and a day care centre on the Ennis Road in Limerick; and a revised general nurse education and traning programme commenced in the School of Nursing, Limerick in October 1995 leading to the award of a Diploma in Nursing from the University of Limerick and registration as a general nurse with An Board Altranais.
The Minister of State, Deputy O'Shea, made announcements in relation to: A young chronic sick unit, a £322,500 once-off expenditure; and as part of the additional funding provided for the mental handicap services in 1995, £781,000 was allocated to the South-Eastern Health Board region. Included in these developments was the provision of 12 additional residential places, 12 day care places and the extension of pre-school services in Dungarvan.
