Vol. 457 No. 4

Written Answers. - Beijing Conference.

Michael Woods

Ceist:

111 Dr. Woods asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform in relation to the individuals and organisations who were granted funding assistance to attend the recent UN Conference and NGO Forum on Women held in Beijing, the amount of funding granted in each case; the names of any individuals or organisations who were refused a grant; the names of all Ministers and representatives from Government Departments who attended; and the overall cost to the Exchequer. [15608/95]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to a written question from Deputy Ellis on 11 October 1995.

Funding to travel to the World Conference on Women and-or the NGO Forum was committed to the following organisations subject to maxima indicated: National Women's Council of Ireland, £3,300; Irish Countrywomen's Association, £2,700; Cork Federation of Women's Organisation, £2,300; Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed, £2,300; Women of the North-West, £2,300; National Traveller Women's Forum, £2,700; Forum of People with Disabilities, £2,300; Inishowen Women's Network, £1,200; Tallaght NOW, £1,200; National Youth Council of Ireland, £1,200; and Women's Aid, £2,700.

It would not be appropriate to publish the names of individuals and organisations which were refused a grant.

In addition to me, the Ministers and delegates from Government Departments who attended were: Department of Equality and Law Reform: Mr. Bernard McDonagh, Ms Anne Kinsella, Mr. John Hurley, Mr. Richard Humphreys, Ms Frances Comerford, and Ms Catherine Sheridan; Department of Education: Minister, Deputy Bhreathnach, Ms Deirdre O'Keeffe, Ms Sinéad Bruton, and Ms Deirdre McAndrew; Department of the Taoiseach: Minister of State, Deputy Doyle, and Mr. Gerard Cassidy; Department of Foreign Affairs: Ms Anne Webster, Ms Jacqueline O'Halloran, and Mr. John Biggar; Department of Health: Dr. Ruth Barrington.
The total cost of travel and subsistence in respect of myself and delegates from my Department is approximately £38,000. The costs of Ministers and delegates from other Departments were borne by their Votes and any questions should be directed to the appropriate Minister.
