Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Card Revision.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

129 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health the reason persons (details supplied) in Dublin 7 who obtained a medical card on appeal two years ago have now had it refused, in spite of the fact that their circumstances have not changed. [16420/95]

Limerick East): As the Deputy is aware the decision to grant a card in this case is a matter for the chief executive officer of the Eastern Health Board.

I have had inquiries made of the board in this case. I understand from the board that its assessment shows the couple in question are in receipt of old age pensions and, in addition, one of the spouses is in receipt of an occupational pension which brings their joint income in excess of the guidelines used by the health board in deciding on medical card eligibility.

If the Deputy is aware of circumstances which may not be known to the board, perhaps he would arrange for the relevant information to be communicated to the chief executive officer.

I have sent a copy of this question and my reply to him for his information.
