Vol. 458 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drink Driving.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

75 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to increase public awareness regarding drink driving over the Christmas season; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16461/95]

I refer the Deputy to the reply by the Minister for the Environment to his similar question on 7 November which sets out the position so far as the National Safety Council is concerned.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, complementary to the ongoing strict and sustained enforcement of the road traffic laws, a special campaign of law enforcement measures will take place over the Christmas period involving, inter alia, radio and television publicity to encourage motorists to exercise care and to stay within the law. Extra checkpoints and patrols will also be undertaken over the relevant period.
