Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mayo Homes for the Elderly.

Séamus Hughes

Ceist:

90 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health if he will provide funding for a long-stay health board care facility in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, on lands owned by the Western Health Board in view of the fact that the elderly have to be cared for from this catchment area in other places; and when formal approval will be given to proceed to design a home for the aged in Achill, County Mayo. [16883/95]

Limerick East): In the first instance, the provision of long-stay homes for the elderly in Ballinrobe and Achill is a matter for the Western Health Board.

The board recently carried out a review of the long-stay requirements for the elderly in its region. However, before approval can be given to any of the board's recommendations, I must take into account the internal priorities of the board and the capital funding available to me in 1996.
