Robert Molloy

Ceist:

29 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the percentage of the growth in merchandise exports in 1994 that was due to the activities of foreign-owned companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16920/95]

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

30 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the percentage of the growth in merchandise exports in 1994 that was due to the activities of foreign-owned companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16921/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 29 and 30 together. Total merchandise exports in 1994 amounted to £22,748 million representing an increase of £2,966 million on 1993 and it is estimated that non-indigenous companies contributed some 85 per cent of that growth. Indigenous exports, as monitored by ABT, amounted to £3,363 million in 1994 representing an increase of £423 million or 14.4 per cent on 1993, a rate of growth practically on a par with the 15 per cent achieved by the non-indigenous sector.
