Vol. 458 No. 3

Written Answers. - International Trading Conditions.

John O'Donoghue

Ceist:

51 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the methods his Department utilises to monitor the effects on Irish trade caused by external fluctuations in trading conditions. [16868/95]

One of An Bord Tráchtála's primary functions is to constantly monitor and review market trends and developments in all major world markets. The analysis is continuous and is made with the benefit of close contact with the overseas marketplace and indigenous exporting companies. The performance of indigenous exports is monitored and checked on a quarterly basis across the main markets e.g. Britain, Northern Ireland, Europe, North America, and across the main industry sectors. As part of this process An Bord Tráchtála also co-operates closely with our network of diplomatic missions abroad.

Other key sources of information and analysis for the Department on developments in international trading conditions both within the Single Market and throughout the rest of the world, come through our national representation at the European Union, the World Trade Organisation and the OECD.
