The latest figure available for the size of the Irish bovine herd is from the June 1995 Agricultural Postal Survey conducted by the Central Statistics Office.
Provisional estimates from this survey were published on 12 September 1995 showing the total number of cattle in the State on 1 June 1995 at 7,140,000.
