Vol. 459 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Incendiary Threat.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

149 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the measures, if any, that have been taken to address the threat of placing incendiary and other such devices in Dublin; if she will agree to the drafting of additional Gardaí to Dublin city centre for the shopping period up to Christmas; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18042/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are well-established measures in place to deal with threats to place incendiary devices in Dublin or at any location in the State. It would be counter-productive to give details of these measures other than to say that they involve a combination of Garda operational measures and co-operation with the business community.

As regards policing in the pre-Christmas period, I am informed by the Garda authorities that special measures are being taken to meet the particular policing needs which arise at this time especially in busy shopping areas. These will include the monitoring of cash movements to and from commercial premises and financial institutions. Furthermore, specific strategies will be implemented in critical-key areas.
