Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the member in each case: Deputy Seán Ryan — the proposals, if any, currently under examination for a second commercial airport at Baldonnel, County Dublin; Deputy Killeen — the need to update the sewage treatment facilities at Lahinch, County Clare to enable the town to benefit from the 1995 pilot resorts scheme; Deputy McDaid — the current position regarding 2,000 farmers in disadvantaged areas who sent in their area aid forms late; Deputy O'Dea — the need to improve the arrangements for hearing family law cases in view of the imminent introduction of new legislation following the success of the divorce referendum; Deputy Michael Kitt — when sanction will be given for an extension of the Ballymacward-Caltra-Castleblakeney group water scheme, County Galway to Newtown-Tycooley; Deputy Brendan Smith — the need to secure a replacement industry for Kingscourt, County Cavan in view of the imminent closure of Iduna Ireland Limited; Deputy Frances Fitzgerald — the need for an independent inspectorate for children's residential homes in view of the emerging disclosures in relation to Trudder House, County Wicklow and other residential centres; Deputy Coughlan — the adverse effects on the Irish fishing industry of the proposed 80 per cent reduction of the mackerel quota by the European Commission and, in particular, its impact on the west coast; Deputy Dempsey — the contradiction in the position of the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs calling today for a ban on the import of Nigerian oil at EU level having taken part in the Government decision to appoint the chairman of Shell Ireland to the board of CIE; Deputy Eoin Ryan — the hardship caused to people in the city and county of Dublin by a severe shortage of taxis over the Christmas period and the consequential effect on business in the city centre; Deputy Molloy — the need to approve a £50,000 grant under the voluntary and community services scheme for the Inishbofin Development Company Limited to enable construction of the community centre to be completed; Deputy Séamus Brennan — the current position regarding the Telecom Éireann strategic alliance negotiations in light of reports that British Telecom is reviewing its commitment to the process and the fact that jobs have been lost to the Republic; Deputy Dermot Ahern — the current overcrowding on the Dublin-Belfast railway; Deputies Tom Kitt and Chris Flood — the need for the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to intervene in the Dunnes Stores dispute and order an investigation in accordance with the Industrial Relations Act and Deputy Kathleen Lynch — the urgent need to review the conditions under which public service licences are granted.

The matters raised by Deputies Killeen, Brendan Smith, McDaid and Coughlan have been selected for discussion.
