Vol. 459 No. 3

Written Answers. - Age Limit on Public Posts.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

106 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Health whether the age limit of 50 years on public posts for consultants has been waived at his behest; if so, the number of times and in which posts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18254/95]

, Limerick East): The setting of age limits as part of the overall determination of qualifications of appointment for health board consultant posts is a matter for me as Minister for Health after consultation with the Local Appointments Commission and Comhairle na nOspidéal. In setting age limits for health board competitions for any such posts, the views of the health board concerned are also taken account of, regard being had to factors such as local requirements and likely availability of qualified candidates. When the age limit is set as part of the overall determination of the qualifications of appointment no waiver in individual cases is granted.
