Vol. 459 No. 3

Written Answers. - Waste Paper Recycling.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

119 Miss Harney asked the Minister for the Environment the arrangements, if any, that have been made in Government Departments for the recovery and recycling of waste paper; if he will publish any guidelines issued in this respect; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18156/95]

The recovery and recycling of waste paper in other Departments is the responsibility of Departments themselves. However, in line with the commitment in A Government of Renewal, my Department is at an advanced stage of preparing guidelines for the adoption of better environmental management practice throughout the Civil Service. These guidelines will include the formulation of environmental management plans incorporating recycling arrangements.

In my own Department, all waste paper arising in the Dublin and Shannon offices is channelled to recycling reuse outlets. The bulk of waste paper arising in the Ballina office is also channelled to a reuse outlet.
