Ceist:

129 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education when maintenance grants to Irish students studying in British universities and colleges will become available; and the level of this support Irish students in Britain will receive in 1996 and 1997. [18035/95]

The 1995 budget statement indicated that the maintenance grants payable under the higher education grants scheme would be extended to approved courses being followed by Irish students studying abroad with effect from the 1996-97 academic year.

The details in relation to the implementation of this initiative are being considered by my Department at present.
