Vol. 459 No. 4

Written Answers. - Transfer of House Ownership.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

34 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the progress, if any, he has made with regard to proposals to ensure the transfer of ownership of family homes to both spouses; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18230/95]

The possibility of ensuring by law the transfer of the ownership of family homes to both spouses has been severely restricted by the decision of the Supreme Court on the Matrimonial Home Bill.

I am examining proposals that would facilitate the voluntary transfer of family homes to joint ownership in consultation with the Incorporated Law Society and representatives of the banks and building societies.

When these consultations are concluded it may be possible to consider legislation on the matter.
