Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Class.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

125 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education the reason her Department will not sanction a special class for Our Lady Immaculate Girls' national school, Darndale, Dublin 13, in view of the absolute educational necessity for the class; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18676/95]

The application from the school in question for the establishment of a special class, is receiving active attention from my Department's primary inspectorate in consultation with the relevant health authorities. A special class of the type in question requires a variety of inputs from the health services such as speech therapy, psychological and psychiatric services.

The Deputy will appreciate the importance of ensuring that all necessary support services can be provided before the class is sanctioned.
