Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - Motorway Construction Matters.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

51 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment the consideration, if any, he has given to the proposal by Fingal County Council to construct a motorway and bridge across an internationally important wildlife habitat on the Broadmeadow Estuary; if his attention has been drawn to a vital conclusion contained in a consultant's report that was censored by Council officials; and when a decision will be made on the project. [18601/95]

A public local inquiry was held between 17 and 31 October last into the proposed northern motorway airport to Balbriggan bypass scheme and associated environmental impact statement. The inspector who held the inquiry is now preparing a report for submission to, and consideration by, me. Before making a decision, I am required to consider the EIS and submissions made in relation to the likely effects on the environment; the report and any recommendations of the inspector must also be taken into account.

In view of my quasi-judicial role in the matter, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.
