Vol. 459 No. 7

Written Answers. - Beef Products Consumption.

Pat Upton

Ceist:

69 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health his assessment of the risk posed by the consumption of beef products from animals suffering from BSE in relation to the development of Creutzfeldt Jakob disease in humans. [18840/95]

, Limerick East): I want to assure the Deputy that I take a very close interest in this subject. The Deputy will be aware that no link has been established between BSE in cattle and Crutzfeldt Jakob disease in humans. Nevertheless my Department and, in particular, the Food Safety Advisory Board are keeping the position under continuous review. In addition, contacts are being maintained with the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry and with the veterinary services operated by his Department.
