Vol. 459 No. 7

Written Answers. - Midlands Peat Fired Station.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

159 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications when a decision will be made regarding the site location for the new peat fire station in the midlands; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18821/95]

In order to ensure the lowest cost and best value possible for the electricity consumer, it is envisaged that each of the bidders in the competition will select the site which they believe will be most advantageous. It will therefore be up to the builder-operator (develop) of the new station to decide where, within the east-midlands region, the new station should be located. In making this decision the developer will take into consideration the relevant economic elements to the equation such as the availability and proximity of suitable supplies of peat, suitability of the site for the construction of a new plant and other facts, such as, the transport infrastructure required.
