Vol. 459 No. 8

Written Answers. - Attacks on Travellers.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

116 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice her views on the adequacy of present legislation to ensure that attacks on travellers do not go unpunished by the law; and the plans, if any, she has to introduce legislation in this area. [18268/95]

Travellers are afforded the same protection under the criminal law as all other citizens. All complaints of breaches of the criminal law are fully investigated by the Garda and the perpetrators brought to justice where possible. No distinction in the enforcement of the law is made between travellers and other citizens.
