79 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the total number of personnel working in his Office and the Office of the Minister(s) of State at his Department; the number of support staff and back-up personnel in each office; their titles and responsibilities; their salaries and other associated costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Equality and Law Reform (Mr. Taylor)

A total of nine personnel are employed in the general ministerial office and the constituency office of my Department at a total annual salary of £145,788. Associated salary costs amount to approximately £3,800. Two of these personnel hold titled positions, namely the private secretary to the Minister and the Press/Information Officer. The other seven personnel are engaged in general clerical and administrative duties.

A further four contract staff are employed in these offices as follows: the programme manager provides administrative back-up to assist me in the achievement of the objectives set out in the policy document A Government of Renewal. The annual salary of the programme manager is £40,664 and associated salary costs amount to approximately £600. The special adviser advises me on specialised legal research on the law reform and equality legislation of the Department and in connection with the progression of legislative work within the Department and generally. He also maintains contact with special advisers in other Ministers' offices with a view to maintaining a co-ordinated approach to Government policy. The annual salary of the special adviser is £35,255 and associated salary costs amount to approximately £3,150. The special adviser on equality issues advises me on equality matters, including child care, and EU affairs. The annual salary of the special adviser on equality issues is £34,850 and associated salary costs amount to approximately £3,150. (iv) The personal assistant to the Minister provides secretarial assistance in relation to personal correspondence-constituency matters, such as queries originating at my clinics or otherwise, and representations on behalf of constituents. The annual salary of the personal assistant is £18,955 and associated salary costs amount to approximately £2,300.

There is no Minister of State in my Department.
