Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Beaumont (Dublin) Hospital Incident.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

195 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Health the action, if any, he proposes to take to prevent a recurrence of an incident in which a person recently lay on a trolley in the casualty department of Beaumont Hospital, Dublin from 1 a.m. on a Monday morning until 6 p.m. the following Thursday, a total of approximately 90 hours. [1331/96]

Limerick East): It is inaccurate to say that the patient lay on a trolley in the casualty department of Beaumont Hospital for approximately 90 hours. The patient involved arrived in Beaumont Hospital's accident and emergency department at 01.48 on Monday 8 January, 1996. A decision was taken at 07.14 to admit the patient. He was transferred to St. Paul's observation ward at 21.44 and was discharged on Thursday 11 January, 1996. St. Paul's observation ward was opened last August with new funding from my Department designed to help alleviate some of the pressures on the accident and emergency services in this hospital.
