85 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the proposals for legislation being prepared under the auspices of his Department that have not yet been published; and the statutory instruments being prepared in his Department. [19382/96]
Work is ongoing to prepare draft legislation to give effect to the two Additional Protocols of 1977 to the Geneva Conventions of 1949. At this stage it is difficult to estimate when the legislation will be enacted as it involves complex issues relating to humanitarian law. I can assure the House that as soon as the issue has been studied and any difficulties arising therefrom resolved, the necessary legislation will be prepared.
There are no Statutory Instruments being prepared at the present time.
