One proposed international agreement involving the Department of Foreign Affairs, a bilateral Extradition Treaty with Canada, is currently being negotiated. No international organisation is involved.
In addition the following proposed international agreements are currently being drafted or prepared under the auspices of the European Communities:
1. European Agreement with Slovenia (initialled at official level in June 1995);
2. Partnership and Cooperation Agreements with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia;
3. Euro-Mediterranean Agreement with Morocco (initialled at official level in November 1995);
4. Trade and Cooperation Framework Agreement with the Republic of Korea.
Negotiations are under way for Euro-Mediterranean Agreements with Egypt, Jordan and the Lebanon.
Directives allowing for the negotiation of an agreement with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia have recently been adopted by the Council.
Negotiations for an agreement with Croatia are in suspension.
