Vol. 460 No. 5

Written Answers. - Housing Remedial Works.

John Ellis

Ceist:

40 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment what action, if any, he proposes to take regarding the completion of remedial works on the houses at Cranmore, Sligo; and if he will make a full statement on the progress to date. [1603/96]

The planning and carrying out of remedial works projects, and decisions on the location and number of dwellings to be included in each phase of a project, are the responsibility of the local authority. In relation to the Cranmore Estate, funding of £485,000 have so far been provided to Sligo Corporation in respect of a chimney replacement programme. To date, I understand that work on a first phase of the estate has been completed. Last November, I approved the corporation's proposals to accept a tender for work on a second phase of 20 houses and it is now a matter for the corporation to get this under way. Proposals for carrying out improvements to the balance of the designated houses in the estate are awaited from Sligo Corporation.
