60 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the amount allocated for capital grants in 1995 for youth and community purposes; the amount actually committed to individual grants; the amount spent; and if grants can still be applied for under this scheme. [1689/96]
In 1995 £6.205 million was provided for the sports capital programme to meet payments on projects where grants were allocated in 1995 and in previous years. Total expenditure in 1995 amounted to £5.616 million. In addition the programme was increased by a further £4 million which enabled my Department to allocate further grants to projects during 1995 and early 1996. Payments in respect of these projects are expected to arise later this year or in 1997.
All funds under the programme are fully committed to existing projects. However, new applications will be considered in the event of further funds being provided.
