Vol. 460 No. 5

Written Answers. - Clonroche (Wexford) Crime Statistics.

Hugh Byrne

Ceist:

76 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the level of crime in recent times at Clonroche in County Wexford; if she will appoint a new sergeant and a new garda with full responsibility for the area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1683/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a total of 15 indictable crimes were recorded in the Clonroche sub-district in 1994. Detections were made in respect of 13 of the crimes.

The present strength of Clonroche Garda station is one sergeant and one garda and the area is policed as part of the Community Policing Initiative in operation in Enniscorthy District with Enniscorthy station being the Area Headquarters.
Clonroche station is open each day excluding Sunday between the hours of 2.30 p.m. 4.30 p.m. When the station is unmanned the Green Man facility linked to Enniscorthy station comes into operation.
The Clonroche area is regularly patrolled by members from Enniscorthy station and by the Traffic Corps Unit based in Gorey.
The local divisional officer is satisfied that the current policing arrangements in place for Clonroche are effective.
