Vol. 460 No. 7

Written Answers - Clonskeagh (Dublin) School.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

81 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made to grant urgent assistance to meet the language teaching and remedial needs of children attending the Muslim national school in Clonskeagh, Dublin 14; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2110/96]

I have requested my Department's inspectorate to investigate and furnish a report on the educational needs of pupils attending this school.

However, I am not in a position at this stage to indicate to the Deputy whether I will be able to allocate any additional remedial teachers to the primary school sector during 1996. I allocated 55 remedial teaching posts to primary schools with effect from September 1995. These posts were allocated on the basis of priority of need following the collection and analysis of data by my Department's primary inspectorate.

This allocation brings the total number of remedial teachers now in place in the primary sector to 1,188.

I am keeping the question of further appointments in this area under regular review as resources become available. The needs of all schools, including the school referred to by the Deputy, will be considered within this context.
