Vol. 460 No. 7

Written Answers - County Dublin Murder.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

86 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice if she will reopen a murder and sex abuse investigation carried out by the Gardaí in Dún Laoghaire in 1995; whether she has responded to the request of a person (details supplied) that she contact the DPP in relation to the matter; if so, if she will make similar representations to the DPP to a series of similar prosecutions which were not taken on the grounds of lapse of time; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2085/96]

The case referred to by the Deputy has been fully investigated by the Gardaí and a file in the matter forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions who has directed that no prosecution should take place in relation to any of the allegations in question.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that no additional evidence which would justify a further submission to the Director has been produced.

The Director is completely independent in the exercise of his functions and, accordingly, it would be inappropiate for me to make any representations to him.
