Vol. 460 No. 8

Written Answers. - Search and Rescue Facilities.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

33 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine the progress, if any, made to ensure adequate search and rescue facilities on the east coast; the likely date for the report of the review group; when the report will be made public; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2071/96]

In the light of a recent casualty on the east coast I have asked the Marine Emergency Advisory Group, which operates under the direction of my Department, to address the issue of east coast coverage in a review of the availability and deployment of search and rescue resources. I have directed that this review should be completed by the end of February.

I have also asked the Air Corps to evaluate the feasibility of a 24-hour dedicated search and rescue helicopter being based at Baldonnel and I will keep the House informed on these matters.
