Vol. 461 No. 1

Written Answers - US Sanctions against Cuba.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

66 Mr. Sargent asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he took the opportunity to urge President Clinton during his visit to Ireland to lift sanctions against Cuba, in line with the United Nations resolutions to this effect. [2364/96]

President Clinton's visit did not provide me with a suitable opportunity for substantive discussion on foreign policy issues. The President and his Administration, however, are fully aware of the Irish position in regard to the trade embargo on Cuba. The matter has been discussed with the United States authorities at both political and official levels on a number of occasions.
