Vol. 461 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 13, the Bovine Disease (Levies) (Amendment) Bill, 1995 — Order for Report; and No. 14, Statements on the Northern Ireland Peace Process.

It is also proposed, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders, that:

(1) the proceedings on No. 14, if not previously concluded, shall be brought to a conclusion at 8.30 p.m. tomorrow night and the following arrangements shall apply:

(i) Opening statements shall be made by the Taoiseach, the Leader of the Fianna Fáil Party, the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Leader of the Progressive Democrats Party, and the Minister for Social Welfare, who shall be called upon in that order;

(ii) The statement of each other Member called upon shall not exceed 20 minutes in each case;

(iii) Members may share time; and

(iv) the Taoiseach shall be called upon to make a statement in reply not exceeding 20 minutes.

(2) There shall be no Private Members' Business this week.

There are two matters to put before the House. Are the proposals for dealing with No. 14, statements on the Northern Ireland peace process, satisfactory and agreed?

In the context of the involvement by the Green Party, Comhaontas Glas, at the Forum for Peace and Reconciliation, will the Taoiseach assure me that some time will be given to me to represent my party's views in the light of the situation that has developed in relation to the peace process?

I respectfully submit that this might be a matter to discuss with the Whips.

One of the reasons we opted for the longer debate was to allow the maximum number of Deputies to participate. I have no doubt that the Deputy will find the time to speak during the two days. I am sure the Ceann Comhairle will wish to facilitate him.

May I take it that the proposal for dealing with item No. 14 is agreed? Agreed. Is the proposal not to have Private Members' Business this week agreed? Agreed.
