185 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if Bord Fáilte contacted him prior to awarding the contract for registration and classification of accommodation and certifications of restaurants to a Cardiff firm. [3017/96]
Tourism Quality Services Ltd., a Cardiff-based company, was selected to undertake the inspection of accommodation on behalf of Bord Fáilte as part of its registration, grading and certification functions following an open tendering process conducted in accordance with EU public procurement rules. I was advised of the decision to select TQS which, as I am sure the Deputy is aware, I announced to the Seanad during the Second Stage debate on the 1995 Tourist Traffic Bill on 28 June 1995.
A contract between Bord Fáilte and Tourism Quality Services (Ireland) Ltd., an Irish subsidiary which was established to carry out the functions in question, was signed recently. This company, as already announced publicly, has recruited locally.
