Vol. 461 No. 4

Written Answers. - Gender-Balance Provisions.

Brendan Kenneally

Ceist:

41 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if he has satisfied himself that all appointments to State boards since he was appointed have complied with the gender-balance provisions which he introduced himself; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3083/96]

At 31 January 1996 women constituted 25.3 per cent of the total membership of State boards and 32.1 per cent of ministerial/ Government appointees, as compared with 15 per cent and 17 per cent respectively in 1992.

In the three month period ending 31 January 1996 women represented 38.8 per cent of ministerial/Government appointments to State boards and 34.1 per cent of total appointments.

Each Minister is responsible for implementing the gender balance policy in his or her own area.
