Vol. 461 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Lottery Grants.

Joe Walsh

Ceist:

109 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the total amount paid out in national lottery grants by his Department in respect of each county or constituency in the country; and the specific project funded for each grant allocation. [2889/96]

Details of projects which have benefited from national lottery funding in the areas of arts and culture, heritage and the Irish language during the years 1987 to 1994 are contained in the Appropriation Accounts for those years. Prior to 1993 moneys for projects in the arts, culture and heritage areas were disbursed through the Vote of the Department of An Taoiseach. Details in respect of projects/organisations to which national lottery funding was provided by my Department in 1995 are set out in Appendix 1.

With regard to the funding of heritage projects, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 8 of 26 October 1995, in which I outlined the position regarding projects which benefited from national lottery funding from the former non-statutory National Heritage Council in 1995 (to 9 July). I also explained in that reply that the new Heritage Council, which I appointed on 10 July 1995 under the Heritage Act, 1995, is an autonomous statutory body whose functions include powers to provide assistance (including financial assistance) and advice to persons and bodies in matters relating to its functions. A detailed list of any grants approved or paid by the statutory Heritage Council in 1995 and 1996 will be published in its annual reports for those years.
