Vol. 461 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sanitary Facilities.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

134 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Environment the number of houses, both public authority and privately owned, in each local authority area that lack basic sanitary facilities. [3229/96]

Information on a county basis on the number of private households in permanent housing units classified by water supply and sanitary facilities is given in Census 91, Summary Population Report —2nd Series, published in March 1994. These figures do not distinguish between local authority and privately owned houses.

Information based on returns made by local authorities on the number of their rented dwellings without bathroom facilities at 31 December 1995 is set out in the following table. I understand that in the case of some 550 of the dwellings involved the tenants have indicated that they do not wish at this stage to have a bathroom or shower installed.
Number of Local Authority dwellings lacking bathroom facilities at 31 December, 1995.
