Vol. 461 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

62 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the current number of personnel working in his ministerial offices and the office of his Minister(s) of State; the number of personnel that have been seconded or employed on a non-established contract basis; the competition process for filling such positions; the advertisements, if any, made regarding these appointments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3295/96]

The staff complement in my ministerial office remains at the level sanctioned by Deputy Ahern as Minister for Finance, that is ten permanent civil servants and three staff members who are employed in a temporary, unestablished capacity. Five staff are engaged in constituency duties.

In the office of the Minister of State, Deputy Burton, the staff complement is five permanent civil servants and three staff members who are engaged in a temporary, unestablished capacity.

The office of Minister of State, Deputy Mitchell, is staffed by four permanent civil servants.

A total of six staff are employed by me in the office of the Tánaiste, five of whom are employed in a temporary, unestablished capacity.

All temporary unestablished positions were authorised during the term in office of the previous Government. The positions were filled in the normal way and consequently were not advertised.
