Vol. 461 No. 7

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Status for School.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

188 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education if Scoil Clochar Mhuire, Castletown, Dundalk, County Louth, is being considered for disadvantaged status; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3566/96]

I am aware that the school in question has applied for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme.

My Department is currently reviewing its overall approach to the identification and support of disadvantaged pupils in the light of the report on educational disadvantage prepared by the Combat Poverty Agency.

The need of the school mentioned by the Deputy will be considered in the context of any further expansion of the scheme which may be undertaken.
