74 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the numerical strength of the Garda Síochána assigned to the Dublin metropolitan area for each of the years 1985, 1990 and 1995; her views on existing manpower levels to police the Dublin metropolitan area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The deployment of Garda personnel is the responsibility of the Garda authorities. I have been informed by them that the numerical strength of the Garda Síochána assigned to the Dublin metropolitan area for each of the years concerned was as follows:

31/12/1985	4,017 all ranks
31/12/1990	3,741 all ranks
31/12/1995	4,032 all ranks

The Garda authorities have also informed me that the deployment of Garda personnel within the Dublin metropolitan area is reviewed on a continual basis in order to ensure that the policing requirements of the area are adequately met and adjustments are made as required.
