Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Waterford Sewerage Scheme.

Brendan Kenneally

Ceist:

79 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Finance the reason there has been such a delay by the Office of Public Works in taking action in respect of a school (details supplied) in County Waterford in order to allow that school to connect in to the main sewerage system in the area in view of the fact that grant aid was sanctioned by the Department of Education in 1992 and a recent report of the environmental health officer who has reported that there is a health risk to the children in the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4467/96]

I am informed by the Commissioners of Public Works of the following facts in relation to Killea Boys national school, Dunmore East, County Waterford. In 1992 the Department of Education sanctioned grant aid for a number of improvement works including connection of the existing septic tank into the public sewerage system. While the other works proceeded, it was not possible to connect to the public sewer as originally planned as the level of the sewer outside the school site was too high. More recently a solution to the problem has been agreed with the county council. An application has been made for a road opening licence and work on the connection is due to commence later this week.
