81 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Finance the total cost of running the country in each of the last five years. [4518/96]

Total central Government spending, representing current expenditure, that is, central fund services and gross current departmental spending, plus Exchequer-financed capital expenditure, gross exchequer PCP plus non-programme outlays, was as follows:—
