Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Numbers.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

103 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health the number of patients seen in each of the Meath, Mater, Vincent's, James's, Beaumont Hospitals and UCHGA and E departments in 1995; the number of senior house officers in each hospital; the number of registrars in each hospital; the NCHD/patients ratio in each hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4499/96]

Limerick East): The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the following table format:

The data for A & E attendances refers to 1995. The personnel figures relate to 1994 which is the latest year for which finalised information is available. The reported patient ratio is therefore based on 1994 hospital activity. It should be noted that there are many factors which affect personnel numbers. These include teaching obligations, casemix load, outpatient duties, demographic variations etc. The differences between hospitals should be interpreted in this context and in the light of each hospital's particular circumstances and responsibilities.
