Vol. 462 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ballyporeen (Tipperary) Garda Deployment.

Noel Davern

Ceist:

86 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the fact that there has been no member of the Garda Síochána stationed at Ballyporeen, Cahir, County Tipperary for the past number of months; the steps, if any, that are being taken towards the renovation of Ballyporeen Garda station; when a member of the Garda Síochána can take up appointment at Ballyporeen; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4748/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas. I am informed by them that the Garda post at Ballyporeen has been vacant since 5 December 1995. I understand that a replacement garda will be allocated to Ballyporeen in the near future. In the meantime the area is being policed from Cahir Garda station.

Maintenance works to the station and married quarters have recently been approved. It is anticipated that these works will commence in the near future.
