Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Arts Centre.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

123 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the current status of the proposed Blanchardstown Arts Centre, Dublin 15, in view of recent announcements on other arts centres throughout the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5045/96]

As the Deputy is aware, I have approved in principle the funding of eight projects under phase one of the assessment process of applications submitted to me under the cultural development incentives scheme 1994-99.

The second phase of the assessment process has commenced and this will involve the advisory committee which I have established considering and making recommendations to me on all applications received to date, with the exception of the eight already approved in principle for funding. I expect this process will take approximately two months to complete and I hope to be in a position to announce details of further projects to which funding will be offered in May. A decision will be made on the application for the provision of an arts centre in Blanchardstown during this process.
