Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - Task Force on the Elderly.

Joe Walsh

Ceist:

201 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will publish the report of the Task Force on the Elderly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5358/96]

Mildred Fox

Ceist:

212 Ms M. Fox asked the Minister for Social Welfare the proposals, if any, he has to make alarm systems available to all old age pensioners, particularly those with non-taxable incomes. [5036/96]

It is proposed to answer Questions Nos. 201 and 212 together.

As the Deputies are aware, I established a Task Force on Security for the Elderly on 24 January 1996 to examine how the security needs of elderly persons, who are not in a position to avail of the income tax relief for the installation of burglar alarms, announced in this year's budget, might be met.

I have now received the report of the task force and I am currently considering its recommendations. I intend to put it to Government in the near future with a view to publishing it.
