Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Donegal Harbour Facilities.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

260 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine what plans, if any, he has to obtain a loan from the European Investment Bank similar to that obtained by the authorities in Northern Ireland to upgrade harbour facilities at Killybegs and Burtonport, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4909/96]

Exchequer and EU investment of some £3 million is planned under this year's Fishery Harbour Capital Programme including completion of the current project at Burtonport. Works at Killybegs are among the projects being examined for inclusion in the programme, and I hope to be in a position to make an announcement on this matter shortly.

As regards the financing of fishery harbour capital investment, this is handled as an integral part of the Government's total funding programme, drawing on the best available sources and terms, including the European Investment Bank as appropriate.
