Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - Land Commission Repayments.

Brian Cowen

Ceist:

76 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Finance if he will include a provision in the Finance Bill, 1996, which will allow for repayments made by farmers to the Land Commission for the purchase of Land Commission land allocated to them to be deemed deductible for income tax purposes, as was the situation in the past; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4830/96]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that there has been no recent change in these arrangements. Any interest element of an annuity payment to the Land Commission continues to be a deductible expense as is the case in respect of any interest on borrowings to purchase farm land.
