Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - Merchant's Quay Project, Dublin.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

107 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health the funding sought by the Merchants Quay Project, Dublin 8, for the expansion of their work to provide medical treatment services and the provision of residential detoxification services; and the response to this request. [5012/96]

Limerick East): The Eastern Health Board is responsible for the provision of treatment services for drug misusers in Dublin, in the first instance.

An application was received by the board in 1995 from the Merchant's Quay project for funding of £217,300 for the provision of a residential detoxification service. The application was the subject of discussion between representatives of the project and officials of my Department and it was, I understand, also discussed between the project and officials of the Eastern Health Board.

Arising from decisions made by the Government on 20 February relating to drug demand reduction measures, the Eastern Health Board will now be proceeding with the development of comprehensive treatment measures in Dublin. The Merchant's Quay proposals will be considered in that context.
